About

About the Project

The main objective of the PRECISE project is to research, innovate, integrate and validate existing and novel 3D technologies in a new objective unified framework for enabling in the current oncological clinical practice, patient-specific methods and tools for the training, the simulation, the intervention and the follow-up of personalized surgical approaches. This will advance the current state of the art where the surgeon approaches the surgical operation using only medical images or, at most, 3D rendering of the anatomy of interest and must also use medical devices that are not personalized on the patient. With PRECISE’s proposed approach, instead, the surgeon will be able to simulate the intervention under different scenarios and to test a number of different, personalized tools, finding the best options. Moreover, tools and medical devices developed for simulation will be manufactured and applied in the intervention, thus assuring a perfect fit on the patient. The project will encompass a number of scientific and technological challenges involving advanced multi-modal medical data processing and 3D reconstruction, additive manufacturing of prototypes to support realistic intervention planning and training of healthcare professionals, interactive visualization and optimized prototyping.
